Boulder Flatirons from the south

Our Program

We offer a broad, but rigorous, interdisciplinary education. Both the undergraduate and graduate degrees draw on courses and expertise from more than thirty participating departments, centers, and other units on campus, emphasizing the earth and natural sciences as well as the social sciences and humanities. Students can also take advantage of many opportunities for less-formal "real-world" learning, including internships for class credit.

ENVS Colloquium Series

Each semester, ENVS offers a colloquium series.

Water collection in South Africa

A mother and her daughter collecting water were visited by Lori Hunter (ENVS/Sociology faculty) and her fieldwork team in rural South Africa, June 2005. Dr. Hunter is working with South African colleagues to explore the impact of HIV/AIDS mortality on rural households' dependence on natural resources. With ecologist Wayne Twine, University of the Witwatersrand, Dr. Hunter has found that AIDS-impacted households exhibit greater reliance on the local environment for energy and dietary needs.
