Our Program
We offer a broad, but rigorous, interdisciplinary education. Both the undergraduate and graduate degrees draw on courses and expertise from more than thirty participating departments, centers, and other units on campus, emphasizing the earth and natural sciences as well as the social sciences and humanities. Students can also take advantage of many opportunities for less-formal "real-world" learning, including internships for class credit.

House Rock Rapids in Grand Canyon
House Rock Rapids, Grand Canyon, Arizona, Ocotober 2003. While the water discharge in October averaged only 8,000 to 10,000 CFS, it is still plenty to provide a splashy ride. A cooperative team made up of researchers from USGS, INSTAAR, Center for Disease Control, and Colorado Mountain College sampled water from seeps and springs feeding the Colorado River to assess water quality, stable isotopes, and presence of norovirus. One participant was Bruce Vaughn (INSTAAR) who runs the Stable Isotope Lab headed by James White (ENVS, Geological Sciences, & INSTAAR faculty). Photo. B. Vaughn (INSTAAR).
