IBS Institute Overview

  • Interdisciplinary, collaborative research on problems of societal concern.
  • Encourages work that transcends disciplinary boundaries, that illuminates the complexity of social behavior and social life, and that has important implications for social policy.
  • Five research programs, each defined by an interdisciplinary area of research and directed by a senior research scientist:
    • Environment Program, includes the Natural Hazards Center.
    • Health and Society Program
    • Political and Economic Change Program
    • Population Program, includes the CU Population Center and Population Aging Center
    • Problem Behavior Program, includes the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence
  • Two Graduate Training Certificate Programs:
    • Interdepartmental Program in Demography
    • Program in Applied Behavioral Science
