A Frontier Story Of Water And Power
A proposal to build dams in the heart of Patagonia, Chile divides the nation; a frontier culture and one of the last great wildlands face rapid development on a massive scale. Come find out what's at stake and explore the alternatives through this vivid story of water and power.
Field producer and Patagonia outfitter Jonathan Leidich will host a Q&A after the film's screening. Patagonia Rising, is centered on the Chilean Patagonia and the proposed hydroelectric project that threatens the area's wild character and traditional frontier culture. The $4.7 billion project, called HidroAysen, would entail the construction of five major dams on two wild rivers and a transmission line extending 1,400 miles through seven national parks and protected nature reserves. Jonathan's introduction is followed by a screening of the recently released documentary film, "Patagonia Rising," that explores the issue in depth. Among other things, the presentation addresses alternatives to the dam proposal, both in terms of energy and economics.
