Suwanee River, Georgia, near its origin at the Okeefenokee Swamp. The reference fulvic acid available through the International Humic Substances Society is collected at this site. During a tracer experiment conducted in the Snake River, Summit County, Colorado, 6000 gallons of humic-rich water from Georgia's Suwanee River was pumped into the Snake River in an hour. The experiment helped study sorption of dissolved organic matter on iron oxides. Photo: Diane McKnight (CEAE, ENVS, & INSTAAR).
