Recipient of the Green Faculty Award 2005, given by the CU Environmental Center in recognition of her commitment toward a sustainable future and the 2010 Boulder Faculty Assembly Excellence Award for Excellence in Service.

The field of Geology has always required a broad range of knowledge about Earth processes, Earth history, and interactions among living and non-living components. The new field of Earth System Science is a natural progression of our understanding of the vital interconnections that make life as we know it possible. I have had the opportunity to work in many different facets of Geology over the years, including interpreting subsurface structures from geophysical anomalies, field mapping stratigraphic sequences of our local cretaceous marine limestone, working in oil and gas exploration, drilling ice cores on the Greenland Ice Sheet, exploring impacts of climate variability on human history in the North Atlantic, and now bringing the fascinating world of Earth and Environmental Studies to students at Baker Hall.

My interests lie in understanding Earth processes that impact humans, as well as human actions that impact the Earth System. I am also very interested in moving our campus in the direction of "walking the talk" of Sustainability. Other interests including cooking natural foods, understanding learning styles, lessening my environmental impact on the planet, and parenting my two sons.
