More Info

Cynthia's research focused on chemical weathering in glacial environments; silicate weathering is hypothesized to control carbon dioxide levels over geologic timescales. Because rapid physical erosion in glacial landscapes provides surface area for these weathering reactions to occur, she analyzed the mineralogy of soils comprised of wind blown silt to determine chemical weathering fluxes. In 2006, Cynthia completed her thesis, Chemical weathering fluxes of loess soils in the Matanuska Valley, Alaska. After graduation, she planned to take some time off to climb Himalayan peaks in Nepal.
