Lindsay received her ENVS MS with a focus on water resources. She earned her B.A. in earth science and environmental studies from Washington University in St. Louis in 2006. While at CU, she worked at CU's Mountain Research Station, where she helped monitor water quality in the Green Lakes Valley. She helped create a new version of "My Water Comes from the Mountains," a children's book describing the water cycle in Colorado
